NOVEMBER 2009
MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT OF FIAPF

Luis-Alberto-Scalella

It is with great pleasure that FIAPF
supports the Asia Pacific Screen
Awards in their third year. There
are currently no awards of this
scale or reach in the region and
since their inception the Asia Pacific
Screen Awards have kept all their
promises: celebrating and promoting
the diversity and talent of films
produced in the Asia-Pacific region.

FIAPF is the only existing international organisation representing film producers across the world. FIAPF has been an enthusiastic advocate of the APSAs since they were first conceived, seeing the initiative as a unique opportunity to highlight and promote the vivid creativity of Asia-Pacific.

The calibre of nominees each year is testament to the depth of talent and diversity of the region’s producers and filmmakers and I acknowledge the outstanding producers who have been nominated this year.

FIAPF will celebrate the exceptional career of Isao Matsuoka. The former Chairman of leading Japanese film company, Toho, will receive the 2009 FIAPF Award. He follows Indian producer, Yash Chopra (2008) and Australia’s George Miller (2007).
Our partnership with APSA symbolises the already impressive interest in the Awards from film industries of the region. I would like to thank all the FIAPF member producers’ organisations and accredited festivals that officially submit films to
represent their country. Their support ensures the ongoing growth and development of the Awards.

I congratulate APSA on reaching their third year and look forward to a long collaboration in the future. This success is the fruit of the vision and the energy of the Chairman of APSA, I warmly thank Des Power. I would also like to thank the Queensland Premier, Anna Bligh and her Government for the inspired decision to initiate these Awards. It sets an interesting example to the world of what governments can do that is truly meaningful. I congratulate Queensland.
